Choosing chocolate for someone else shouldn't feel like a gamble. Whether it's a birthday, a thank-you, or just because, this guide will help you pick something they'll actually love — and make sure it arrives in perfect shape.
How to choose by recipient
Start with the person, not the chocolate. Here's how we think about it:
For the dark-chocolate lover
Go for the single-origin dark bars. The 70% Belize, 65% Madagascar, 80% Tanzania, and 75% Vietnam bars are each made from cacao grown in one place, so each has its own character. If they already have a favorite origin, matching it is the safest move. For someone who likes it intense, the 80% Tanzania is the highest cacao percentage in our lineup. For a different spin on dark chocolate, try a flavored dark bar like Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate or Ruya Turkish Coffee Dark Chocolate.
For the milk-chocolate fan
Not everyone wants the intense stuff — and that's a perfectly respectable position. The Prohibition Milk Chocolate is a classic-style milk bar, and the 60% Dark Milk Chocolate sits between milk and dark for someone who likes a little depth without the bitterness.
For the adventurous taster
Some people collect flavors the way others collect stamps. For them, the flavored bars are the fun pick: Ruya Turkish Coffee, Café Mocha, and Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate for the coffee-and-nut crowd; Lemon Lavender White Chocolate and White Chocolate with Cocoa Nibs for someone who likes something unexpected.
For the person who loves a little of everything
When you're not sure what they like — or you know they like it all — pick variety over precision. The 4-Piece and 7-Piece Chocolate Truffle Boxes, the 1.25 lb Truffle Collection, and The Classic Collection each pack a range of flavors into one gift, so something in the box is guaranteed to land.
Matching the gift to the occasion
Birthdays
Go big enough that it feels like a present, not a snack. A 7-Piece Chocolate Truffle Box works as a main gift; the 1.25 lb Truffle Collection is the move when you want to make an impression. Pairing a bar or two with a truffle box makes it feel personal.
Thank-yous
Keep it thoughtful, not extravagant. A single bar or a 4-Piece Chocolate Truffle Box says thank you without going overboard. If several people chipped in or helped out, the 7-piece box stretches further.
Corporate and client gifts
Generosity reads well in professional settings. The larger gift boxes — the 1.25 lb Truffle Collection or The Classic Collection — are substantial, shareable, and easy to order for multiple recipients. Order early so shipping time doesn't force you into last-minute decisions.
Holidays
Chocolate is at its most popular around the holidays, so plan ahead. Allow a few extra days for processing and transit, and consider ordering before the final rush week. Truffle boxes and collections make easy, crowd-pleasing gifts for hosts, neighbors, and coworkers.
Freshness and storage
Good news: chocolate is a forgiving gift. Here's what to know:
- Chocolate bars keep for 6–12 months when stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Truffles and filled bonbons are best enjoyed sooner — typically within a few weeks.
- Each product page lists the best-by date and storage guidance, so check there for specifics.
A few general tips that apply to any chocolate, ours or anyone else's:
- Store it at cool room temperature. A pantry or cupboard is ideal; heat and sunlight are the enemies.
- The refrigerator is usually too cold and damp, and chocolate absorbs odors easily — skip it unless your kitchen is genuinely hot, and even then, keep it sealed airtight.
- White "bloom" (a dusty film) is just cocoa butter rising to the surface. It's harmless and doesn't mean the chocolate has gone bad.
Shipping and melting: the honest version
Chocolate softens in heat — that's physics, not a defect. Here's how we handle it, and what you can do:
- Orders are processed within 1–2 business days. We don't ship or deliver on weekends or holidays, and during busy periods shipments can be delayed by a few days.
- Every order is fulfilled and shipped directly by the artisan chocolatier who crafted your chocolate. Shipping options are shown at checkout before you complete your purchase.
- Delivery times are estimates provided by the carrier — they aren't guaranteed, and we're not responsible for delays caused by the carrier or the weather.
- If it's hot where the recipient lives, time your order so someone can bring the box inside promptly. Avoiding delivery over a sweltering weekend is smart.
- If your chocolate arrives melted, damaged, or incorrect, email stygura@gmail.com within 7 days of delivery with a photo of the item and its packaging, and we'll sort it out. Replacements or refunds are issued at our discretion.
We currently ship within the United States only.
Gift messages and packaging
- Gift messages: If you'd like a personal note included, mention it in the order notes at checkout and we'll do our best to accommodate it.
- Packaging: We don't currently offer dedicated gift wrap, but every order is packed with care so it arrives looking beautiful.
- Receipts: No pricing is included with your order, so the box can go straight to the recipient. Your receipt is emailed to you when you check out.
Still unsure? When in doubt, go with a truffle box. Assortments forgive almost any guesswork — and nobody has ever been disappointed to open one.
